time is very important but could not care
less about wasting yours. So it could be
a good idea to charge for a written
estimate on your headed stationary. Most people
who want an estimate already have someone else
in mind for the work anyway. They want
to compare prices. Charge for your estimate
and refund it if you get the job.
Yes I know everyone states free estimates but
you must be paid for your time and
not let people waste it.

I inquired what was his hourly rate. I was
half expecting him to say a low
figure, but what he said shuck me!!
his hourly rate was so low, but he
defended this by saying he did not want
to lose work. I told him stop robbing
himself and to raise his rate by at
least 50% and he would still get work.

productivity, price of materials, labor, profits and
overheads. There is no book or software
that can take into account all the
wildly different conditions found in paint estimating
