Cost of Painting Interior of a House
The owner of a painting company must learn
business practices to be successful. It is
not enough to be a great painter,
you can teach anyone within reason to paint.
Many painting contractors go out of business
within their first five years of trading, sadly
due to money problems, brought about by
not charging enough for their services.
Who gives the estimate has a huge bearing
on the cost. A self employed painter
who may be temporally out of work will be
very happy to do your private work,
His outgoings are low and he is
able to paint a simple room without
complex trim for about £130 - £195.
If
you hire a proper contractor with their
high overheads - you will pay 3-4
times that amount.
Cost of Painting Interior of a House
Some painters estimate a room by square footage
of the floor.
Others simply multiply by 3
the value of paint and materials to
arrive at a price.
Then their is
painters who have not a clue who charge,
Time and material.
Knowing how long it takes
your workforce to paint, ceilings walls, woodwork etc.
and then multiplying be the companies day
rate is a simple method.
An example would
be: 2 hour to paint a window,
2 coats = 2 hours x £15 Total £30.
Most painting contractors play "follow the leader"
or "going rate"
They think because another
company is charging say £50 per hour
that is the set rate and they blindly
stick with it regardless of the different
overheads of the other company the other
company may have low overheads, and will
make a profit at £50 per hour.
you might have much higher overheads and if
you copy this £50 per hour rate will lose
money. Calculate you own profitable hourly rate.
