Price for painting a house
It's a common problem that new painting
business managers often struggle with pricing the
painting jobs that they survey. Finding the
right price to tender is what makes
or breaks the companies business and determines
whether you win or lose jobs. Getting
your prices right is not always an easy
matter, better to go in to high than
low. Don't give a low estimate to win
the job.
The US Department of Labor statistics says
that 80% of all small businesses fail within the
first five years. Of the remaining, 80% of
them go out of business in the next
5 years. So at the end of ten
years only 4% are still in business.
Sadly to say most painting contractors fall
into this statistic.
Decorating clients have of course very different
priorities. A percentage of them will view the
cost as their deciding factor. Some decorators
don't give them a estimate because they
see them as a headache and more
trouble than they are worth. On the
other hand there is the clients who
associate a low estimate with unqualified decorators
or poor quality of workmanship.
Price for painting a house
Some would be clients that ring me up, ask
how much do you charge to paint my
(front room)(bathroom)(staircase) or exterior of home.
I say to them I do not know
without actually seeing it. To which they
reply.. well it's this big, It's got
three widows, only one door though, it will
only need one coat, It's in good
condition even though my husband used to smoke
a lot in that room, How much do
you think then? I repeat I will have
to see the job!! Oh alright then,
here's the address, come round a 4 tomorrow,
hope you like cats I have ten.
Never give a written quote for an
unseen job, if you don't want a
nasty surprise.
