Price of painting a house
Over the years i have seen many painters
that i have worked with, fail in this
business, and I used to feel sorry for
them, but not any more. They choose
not to educate themselves and learn new skills.
Yes it's true years ago being a good
craftsman was all you had to be to
make a good living, not any more!
To days
competition is much more intense, don't stand
still sitting on your butt bathing in
your pride of craftsmanship.
Business after Christmas is always slow. No one
it seem wants any work done till the
Spring time. So what is the answer?
Do you take advantage of this lull to
learn the skills of a paint estimator or
fall back on the only sales tactic
you know, they drop their prices!! This to
them is a master stroke. What happens
next is their competitors do the same to
try and secure the same contract at
a much lower loss making price.
I would advise when making your estimate to
allow plenty of time for work that is
not actually painting. The hard part of
any painting work is clearing up when you
are finished. Getting all materials of the
premises and giving the property a thorough
clean up. If you leave a mess the
whole job will be judged on that.
Price of painting a house
Who gives the estimate has a huge bearing
on the cost. A self employed painter
who may be temporally out of work will be
very happy to do your private work,
His outgoings are low and he is
able to paint a simple room without
complex trim for about £130 - £195.
If
you hire a proper contractor with their
high overheads - you will pay 3-4
times that amount.
